Leh: Needful Things
They are needed to get to nearly everywhere in Ladakh: to nubra valley, the lakes, lamayuru and Dha Hanu. They can be get in Leh directly at the government office in Leh at polo ground or at one of the severals travel agencies that charge a service fee.
There are several internet access centres in main bazaar road.
There are a lot of ATMs in Leh and Choglamsar.
A Pharmacy can be found in Leh or in Choglamsar, 5km from our Guest House in Shey.
The number of money changers in Leh decreased in the past. But they can still be found. The rate is better than at the ATMs and at Delhi Airport. In Leh there is one opposite to the german bakery at the changspa/main bazaar road square.
SIM Cards from outside won´t work in Ladakh. It has to be purchased in Leh.

German bakery at changspa/main bazaar road square is really good. Try the fantastic apricot crumble.
They serve a great lavazza coffee at coffeesutra.
Just pop in at Summer Harvest Garden at the Fort/Old Fort square and enjoy the ladakh food.
The Tibetan Market can be found in old leh road.
Very tasty Jam and other apricot products can be get in the Ladakh Apricot Store left hand at the beginning of changspa road.
A big one is on main bazaar road and opposite to the main taxi stand.
Beer and any alcoholic Beverages can only be bought in liquor shops. There is one opposite to the main taxi stand and one in Choglamsar.
Leh: Places needed to be seen
Nearly every tourist climbs up to Namgyal Tsemo Gompa at arrival Day in Leh. But beware of the altitude sickness. The climb up is pretty hard - espacially at the first day. As the view up there is really fantastic, better get a taxi up there at main taxi stand (costs: 150 Rs.) and walk down.
Is also bee needed to see at the first day in Leh;-)
Gompa at main bazaar road
If you get tired just relax on the steps in front of the gompa.
Also offers a fantastic view. It´s advisable to take a taxi there. On the way there you can enjoy the greenery of upper town of Leh.
On your way to Shanti Stupa have a look at this great gompa. Unfortunately its closed very often:-(
